As a pledge to the green initiative, the Backyard has established outlets and opportunities for individuals to be more informed on ways to help protect and sustain the environment. Also as a new addition, the Backyard Buddies program not only offers the opportunity to keep in touch with the environmentally friendly venue, but also contribute to the cause.

Help Beautify Austin's Favorite Backyard

JOIN Austin Landmark, The Backyard's GREEN TEAM!!!! We are looking for volunteers to work along side Keep Austin Beautiful to help with the final touches on the New Backyard at Bee Cave. Duties will include: assembling Adirondack chairs, planting/gardening, painting, etc. All volunteers will receive tickets to the First Look Festival and other special perks that only our GREEN TEAM members will receive!

It is preferred that each volunteer brings at least one or ALL of the following tools: Phillips head screwdriver (electric would be ideal), an Allen head wrench, pliers, and a gardening gloves and shovel.

Other Sustainable Features

The site design achieved minimal removal of existing trees and allowances for 28 of the 31 acres to remain as undisturbed or maintained vegetative cover. The vegetation will be sustained by surface irrigation and maintained in accordance with an annual maintenance plan endorsed by the City of Bee Cave and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

The control of storm water runoff quality will be handled by a biofiltration pond and bioretention trenches. The biofiltration pond will utilize the properties of plants, microbes and soils for pollutant removal from storm water runoff collected from the venue and a portion of the parking area. The bioretention trenches are located in the parking area and intercept surface runoff. The runoff percolates thru the trench surface vegetation, root zone and gravel pack before being discharged to an onsite undisturbed and naturally vegetated area.

Drive paths within the parking area will be stabilized to support travel during inclement weather. This will be achieved thru the use of a subsurface synthetic grid that both maintains soil permeability and supports surface vegetation growth.
